Back to my quixotic goal: build a Ruby without that fifth glyph. A smart Ruby pal points to a good doc on 1.8.x:

(starting with a solitary syntax word)

Built a miniruby with 'yass' as its word for truth! Syntax is OK, but it won't run.

(Pardon my bad symbols, programming is a dirty job)

(funny how that flag for "run this string from bash" is our good pal @3)

I am akin to that dog-in-a-lab photo right now: don't know what I'm doing.
